Robot-arm Assisted Surgery

Mako robot-arm assisted joint replacement does not replace the need to make a well-informed decision about your diagnosis, treatment and choosing a surgeon you trust. But once you have chosen to have a joint replacement, why not choose to empower your surgeon with the greatest amount of information and most innovative tools to ensure precision and accuracy?

Robot-arm assistance

Robots do not replace surgeons, however the Mako Accustop Haptic technology assists the surgeon in both preserving as much bone as possible and accurately placing the implants. The haptic arm provides audible, tactile and visual feedback whilst cutting or reaming bone, and impacting implants. It can be used to facilitate improved outcomes in hip, knee and partial knee replacement.

Pre-operative planning

High resolution CT-based planning pre-operatively, in combination with a series of positional x-rays for hip replacement, facilitates a personalised approach to positioning the implants of your joint replacement.

In theatre

The pre-operative CT-based plan is merged with topography of your joint and the bones prepared using the robotic arm-assisted saws and reamers. Further personalisation of your joint replacement can be made on the operating table based upon the intra-operative findings and surgeons assessment.
