Comprehensive Orthopaedic Services
Mr Thomas provides a full spectrum of surgical and non-surgical treatments to address complex hip and knee conditions. Our primary goal is to resolve your pain and restore your joint function safely.
Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery
Severe arthritis can destroy your quality of life, but highly effective surgical solutions exist. Mr Thomas offers primary hip and knee replacement procedures to remove arthritic bone and replace it with durable, high-quality implants, helping you get back to the activities you love.
Revision Joint Replacement
Occasionally, older joint replacements can fail or become painful over time. Mr Thomas holds extensive sub-specialist training in the management of painful and failing hip and knee replacements. Mr Thomas offers precise revision surgery to correct these issues, giving you the best possible chance for your joint to function smoothly once again.
Benign Musculoskeletal Tumours
Finding a lump or being diagnosed with a musculoskeletal tumour can be daunting. Mr Thomas offers expert advice, careful monitoring and when justified, the safe surgical removal of benign bone and soft-tissue tumours.
Non-Surgical Treatments
Surgery is not always the first or best option. Mr Thomas provides thorough assessments for hip and knee pathology and will guide you through evidence-based non-surgical pathways to manage your pain and preserve your joint health for as long as possible.
Why Choose Vale Hip and Knee?
Patient-Led Decision Making
Mr Thomas places your preferences and best interests at the heart of every decision. He ensures you have all the information you need to make informed choices about your diagnosis and treatment plan.
Perfecting the Patient Experience
Historically, joint replacement patients spent up to a week in the hospital. Today, Mr Thomas focus’s on advanced recovery protocols. For many patients, safe discharge on the actual day of surgery is a regular and preferred part of his practice, allowing you to recover in the comfort of your own home.
Compassionate Support
Mr Thomas understands that surgery is a major life event. He takes the time to explain your condition, walk you through the surgical process and outlines exactly what to expect during your rehabilitation.
Leading-Edge Robot-Arm Assisted Surgery
Mr Thomas is incredibly proud to offer the Mako robot-arm-assisted joint replacement surgery. This highly innovative technology empowers your surgeon with precise information and advanced tools to ensure absolute accuracy during your operation.
Pre-Operative Planning
Long before you reach the operating theatre, Mr Thomas uses high-resolution CT scans and positional X-rays to create a highly detailed, 3D model of your joint. This facilitates a completely personalised approach to sizing and positioning your new joint implants.
In the Operating Theatre
It is important to understand that the robot does not replace your surgeon. Instead, the Mako Accustop Haptic technology works alongside Mr Thomas. The robotic arm provides continuous audible, tactile and visual feedback while cutting bone and placing the implants. This haptic assistance helps to preserve as much of your natural, healthy bone as possible.
Personalised Precision
The initial CT-based plan is seamlessly merged with the actual topography of your joint during the procedure. Further personalised adjustments can be made on the operating table based on real-time findings. This level of precision can improve outcomes and facilitate a smoother recovery in hip, total knee and partial knee replacements. Choosing robotic-assisted surgery means choosing to give your surgeon the greatest amount of information to achieve the perfect fit for your body
